The Heavy Combination or Class HC comprises of a truck (or prime mover) towing a trailer with a GVM over 9 Tonnes. All applicants must have held at least a Class MR or HR (can be an overseas truck licence) for at least 12 months. ABC Driving School offers this licence class with two possible gearbox configurations.
Note: If you have previously upgraded your licence to a Class HR using a Roadranger gearbox vehicle, then your licence is already unrestricted. If you choose to upgrade using the one day HC Automatic vehicle, then your Roadranger entitlement will continue to be carried forward onto your new HC licence – you will NOT have a ‘Condition B’ placed on your new licence.
There are still quite a few trucks in the Heavy Combination (Class HC) side of the industry that are fitted with Constantmesh or Roadranger gearboxes. This is mainly due to the heavier weights that this class of vehicle might be pulling.
This type of gearbox requires the driver to Double-decluch or “double-shuffle” when changing both up and down through the gears. For this reason it is imperative that the client must have current manual driving experience. This HC course is normally conducted over two days, as the level of skill required to master this type of gearbox is considerably higher than the Synchromesh or the Automatic gearboxes.
Successful completion of this course using our 18-Speed Roadranger truck, will result in the issue of an unrestricted Class HR licence. This course can also be used to remove a ‘Condition B’ restriction whilst upgrading your licence from a Class MR or HR.

Just like your course we like to make things as simple for you as possible, just follow these six easy steps and let us take care of your needs –
